University of Arizona’s $3B Fuel Wonder campaign surpasses goal
The University of Arizona raised a record-breaking $425 million in new gifts and commitments in fiscal year 2026, exceeding the $3 billion goal of the Fuel Wonder campaign.
As of June 30, 2026, the University of Arizona closed out a record-breaking $425 million fundraising year and surpassed the $3 billion goal of its Fuel Wonder campaign.
“We will continue counting new gifts and commitments through the close of Homecoming weekend in October,” said John-Paul Roczniak, President and CEO of the University of Arizona Foundation. “I am confident we will add meaningfully to this remarkable total before officially celebrating the campaign conclusion.”
James C. Wyant attends the renaming of the College to the James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences in 2019, with (L to R) Tammy Wyant, spouse; and Clair Wyant, son.
Roczniak says a new, $800,000 commitment from The Wyant Foundation pushed the campaign over its $3 billion goal. “Jim Wyant was among the university’s biggest champions,” he said. “He gave generously during Fuel Wonder and the university’s previous campaign, Arizona Now. I am deeply grateful to his widow, Tammy, and his son, Clair, for continuing the impact of his profound legacy on this campus.”
Fuel Wonder began Jan. 1, 2017, with the campaign’s early phase focused on building momentum and philanthropic partnership. The university celebrated the public launch of Fuel Wonder during Homecoming 2023.
Its milestone achievements include the naming of three colleges: the James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences, the W.A. Franke Honors College and the R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy. Several capital projects were completed thanks to donor investment, including the Cole and Jeannie Davis Sports Center, the Alfie Norville Gem and Mineral Museum, the Student Success District, the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, the William M. “Bill” Clements Golf Center and the Paul and Alice Baker Center for Public Media.
Last year, a historic, $20 million gift from the Garcia Family Foundation made study abroad a defining feature of the U of A student experience. The gift is designed to expand access to credit-bearing study abroad programs for students with financial need and advances the university’s strategic imperative of Success for Every Student.
Thousands of alumni and friends have supported the university during Fuel Wonder. In February, an anonymous $20 million gift boosted the impact of the university’s annual Giving Day. The donor challenged the U of A community to raise $5 million for academic priorities — an effort that successfully unlocked a transformational gift resulting in a total of $25,699,324 from 1,324 gifts.
The Fuel Wonder campaign is co-chaired by Marianne Cracchiolo Mago, class of 1993, and Terry Lundgren, class of 1975.
“I want to thank the thousands of donors whose generosity has brought us to this point,” Roczniak said. “Their investment in scholarships, faculty excellence, groundbreaking research, patient care, athletics and countless other priorities will transform lives for generations to come. I can’t wait to celebrate with our community during Homecoming, and hope those who haven’t yet supported their area of passion on campus will join us now and see how far we can go, together.”
